Medical device community says area needs to step up against growing competition
The Memphis area needs to take advantage of its strengths and address its shortcomings to avoid falling behind in the medical device industry, those attending a gathering this week agreed.
The area runs the risk of “losing everything” it has built in the medical device industry without careful attention “because places like Malaysia and China have established almost full cities focused on developing the technical talent that’s there,” Roy Smith told the gathering Monday, Dec. 2, at Elos Medtech/Onyx Medical’s newly expanded facility at 1800 North Shelby Oaks Drive.
Smith is executive director of the Greater Memphis Medical Device Council (GMMDC).
“The challenge is having the skilled talent all the way from the shop floor to the top floor,” Smith said.
